Young European Improvisors / Berlin

DIE ENTTÄUSCHUNG
Rudi Mahall (reeds)
Axel Dörner (tr)
Uli Jenneßen (dr, perc)
Jan Roder (double bass)

One of the best known / ´unknown´ groups of four young improvisors and composers, based in Berlin, that has made somewhat of a name for itself on the local club scene. This will be their first festival performance in Berlin. When they met five years ago, they set out to re-arrange and play compositions by Thelonious Monk (´Monk total´), an original concept of paying tribute to a musical genius, that created something of a stir, in collaboration with Alexander von Schlippenbach.
»´Die Enttäuschung´…a homogeneous synthesis of Monk, Bop and Modern Music. …putting an end to deception, truth emerges« (M/D/JR).

Young European Improvisors / Italy

DUO BRAIDA/LOCATELLI
Alberto Braida (p)
Giancarlo Locatelli (clarinets)

The Braida/Locatelli duo was formed in 1996 focussing both on improvisation and its relationship with composition. In 1999, after about three years during which the duo worked on developing a process of ´substraction´ of musical materials, they issued a CD with totally improvised pieces (´diciannove calefazioni´). At present the duo's activities include a project featuring compositions by Eric Dolphy as well as further research and development into the concepts of improvisation and 'instantaneous composition'. This is their Berlin Festival debut.
Supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Berlin.

European Master-Series / Portugal-Germany

MANUELA
Hans Reichel (daxophon, guit)
Rüdiger Carl (cl, accordion)
Carlos Zingaro (violin)

The highly successful trio of three master musicians from Portugal and Germany who display that most singular quality, an ability to combine virtuosity and inventiveness with a good portion of humour and split-second excursions into the Elysian Fields of popular music. After their recent Lisbon concert they received a standing ovation from a very enthusiastic audience.
An intriguing trio. Don't miss it!.
Supported by Embassy of Portugal in Berlin / Instituto Camões
